about the center

personalized MS care

The Elliot Lewis Center was founded with one mission – to provide state-of the-art, comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to patients with multiple sclerosis, their families, and caregivers in a personalized setting. Today, as one of the largest multiple sclerosis centers in New England, our commitment to highly personalized, hands on, care continues to guide everything we do.

We are MS Experts

Our physicians at ELC are recognized experts in multiple sclerosis and related disorders.  The entire Elliot Lewis Center team provides cutting-edge care and access to all of the available therapeutic options and strategies.

The multiple sclerosis treatment landscape is rapidly changing, and we are committed to providing our patients access to the latest therapies and research opportunities.  Our patients have the opportunity to participate in phase 3 and 4 multi-center clinical trials that explore the efficacy of new and existing treatment protocols. In addition, we conduct our own independent research projects to help discover important aspects of MS care and treatment in a real-world setting.

We Care for the Whole Person

We take the time to understand each individual patient’s unique lifestyle and needs, and not just through the lens of multiple sclerosis.  We take the time to listen and learn about you as a whole person. Rather than simply offering you a single treatment recommendation, we act as care partners, providing information on the whole range of options, so that together, we can make the best treatment plan for you. Choosing an MS treatment and managing your symptoms is just the beginning.  Our team works together to provide support and obtain the full range of resources needed to live a full and happy life.

We Put Our Patients First

Our care model is designed to take the stress and inconvenience out of receiving multiple sclerosis care. You have direct access to your physician. Our center prides itself on the ability to quickly see patients for urgent appoints. Team members meet frequently to review care needs and share insights. Our warm and welcoming facility includes a dedicated infusion center for our patients receiving infusion treatments. We schedule coordinated same-day appointments (for example, a visit with the doctor, phlebotomy, and treatment at the Infusion Center) whenever possible. Our patients appreciate our central location, ample free parking, easy access to our ground floor facility and handicap accessible restrooms.

We Designed a Comfortable Environment

We specifically chose our location and designed our Center to eliminate the hassles of dealing with a large medical facility. We made sure to provide easy accessibility and a comfortable experience for everyone who comes through the door.

We designed every room and office at the Center, including our Infusion suite, to be bright, cheerful, and spacious. The result is a welcoming space where our patients feel safe and cared for. Staff and treatment areas are all located in the same, easily accessible space – you won’t find yourself going down endless corridors, waiting for packed elevators, or standing in line. We’re right there to help you!

We know that when location and workspaces are well aligned, accessible, and welcoming, patients are more comfortable, and we all can focus on optimizing the care of every individual.

Our History

Ellen Lathi, MD, Founder

In 2004 Dr. Lathi created the MS Center at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, which would later become The Elliot Lewis Center (ELC). Her vision was to create a multidisciplinary MS center offering the highest level of care in a warm and comforting environment. The Elliot Lewis Center owes its existence to her remarkable dedication and determination.

Dr. Lathi retired from full-time practice in 2022 but her legacy lies at the heart of ELC. She wants every single patient who comes to ELC to feel “nested”, to get the attention they need, and the education and treatment they deserve.

Warm, compassionate, intelligent, Dr. Lathi deeply cared about her patients and their families. She worried about their struggles, celebrated their achievements, and was absolutely committed to helping them as much as possible.

In addition to her passion for MS she is an avid dog trainer and started a service dog program for patients with MS. She is also an accomplished master gardener.
